The AP (1/15, McCall) reports, “A new report suggests a large number of eighth-graders in Oregon have taken part in the ‘choking game,’ the dangerous practice of choking each other to get a feeling of euphoria.”
“As many as six percent of Oregon eighth-graders have tried the potentially lethal…game,” according to data appearing in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. It’s an activity that can “cause seizures, headaches, bone breaks…brain injury — and death,” HealthDay added. Notably, in 2008, the CDC “reported 82 child and adolescent deaths between 1995 and 2007 linked to the choking game,” deaths that “occurred across 31 states.”

Even kids are counted on in H1N1 prevention

Great article by the Associated Press on how children play a very important role in H1N1 prevention.

An increasing number of kids can tell you that the Sesame Street character “Elmo” sneezes properly into the crook of his arm, and if they sing the whole “ABCs” song while washing their hands they’ll get them really clean. They’re also well acquainted with hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial wipes — and their germ-fighting abilities…..
