The AP (1/15, McCall) reports, “A new report suggests a large number of eighth-graders in Oregon have taken part in the ‘choking game,’ the dangerous practice of choking each other to get a feeling of euphoria.”
“As many as six percent of Oregon eighth-graders have tried the potentially lethal…game,” according to data appearing in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. It’s an activity that can “cause seizures, headaches, bone breaks…brain injury — and death,” HealthDay added. Notably, in 2008, the CDC “reported 82 child and adolescent deaths between 1995 and 2007 linked to the choking game,” deaths that “occurred across 31 states.”
